Once a year, along with communities across the country, Metrocrest Services conducts a formal ‘count’ of our homeless neighbors. The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a requirement under Federal Law, helps communities understand the extent of homelessness, changing trends, and the measure of success in making homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring. It’s also an important reminder that in our community, everybody counts.
Metrocrest Services spearheads the effort to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell, and a portion of Dallas (in Denton County). Metrocrest Services will utilize this information to develop housing initiatives and outreach opportunities.
Homelessness is defined by the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as living outdoors or in a place not intended for human habitation, such as a car.
This year, Metrocrest Services will count unsheltered homeless in Denton County on Thursday, January 27, and Dallas County on Thursday, February 24.
