On Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Golden Gala, Metrocrest Services will honor two women who have spent decades dedicated to serving the Metrocrest community.

Carol Dingman

Carol Dingman PhotoCarol Dingman, former Farmers Branch Mayor Pro Temp, has been active in the community since she and her husband Joe moved to Texas in 1970. As one of the founding members of the TRUTH House (now Metrocrest Services), Carol has the distinct honor of being Metrocrest Services’ most tenured volunteer and organizational leader.

In 1976, Carol became president of Metrocrest Services. During her presidency, she was integral in securing funding from Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Coppell, and Addison to support residents in need.

In 1981, Carol was elected to the Farmers Branch City Council and became the first woman Mayor Pro Temp. After leaving the City Council in 1987, she continued to be active in local and Dallas area volunteer activities, including being a member of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club.

Carol continues to serve on various committees at Metrocrest Services. She considers her role in the organization’s success as “one of my proudest achievements. It has been a success beyond my wildest dreams.”

Lucy Lockwood

Lucy LockwoodLucy Lockwood has a heart for helping others. She began volunteering with Metrocrest Services after her retirement in 1990. During her thirty years of volunteer service, she participated in various activities and events, coordinating the CROP Hunger Walk event, helping with the holiday program, back to school bash, thanksgiving meal distribution, and food pantry.

Most notable is how she made clients feel at ease when visiting Metrocrest Services. “Lucy understood that some clients arrive nervous or self-conscious on their first visit,” said friend and former board member Carol Franzen. “She made sure to engage in warm one-on-one interactions with each person, helping calm their fears and make their experience welcoming and positive.”

Lucy’s reputation for impacting people was also well known among her fellow Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church members and friends. Lucy has run errands for them, sent cards of well wishes or kind sentiments in observance of special occasions or during times of need. “She works to make the world a better place,” said Carol.

As Metrocrest Services Celebrates its 50th Anniversary, it is only fitting to honor two women who have helped Metrocrest Services grow to become the organization it is today.
