Annual event to celebrate community members helping break barriers and build hope for neighbors in need.

Metrocrest Services is excited to announce the outstanding individuals who will be recognized on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the HiddenHeroes Breakfast,  presented by Aaron Augustine, Allstate Insurance Agent.

“This event provides an opportunity for the community to celebrate ordinary but extraordinary heroes who have played pivotal roles in strengthening the Metrocrest area,” explains Tracy Eubanks, CEO. “In addition to honoring these local champions, guests at the breakfast will explore ways Metrocrest Services is breaking barriers and building hope in our new home.”

This year’s honorees are sponsored by Hidden Heroes Signature Sponsor, Thomson Reuters, who believe in supporting the communities in which they live and work.

Meet the Honorees

Andy Dastur is the President of North American Insurance Services and Past-Chair of Metrocrest Services’ Board of Directors. As Chair, Dastur played a pivotal role in leading the agency during one of the most exciting times in its 50-year history. During his tenure, the agency launched a successful capital campaign and completed building our new home. Additionally, a new strategic plan, Metrocrest 2030, was adopted under his leadership. Providing a framework to creating pathways to a thriving community for ALL.

A resident of Coppell, Dastur uses his professional experience to strengthen the Metrocrest area by offering his time and talent in service to the community. Dastur has served as a member of the Metrocrest Services Board of Directors since 2016 and previously served on the board of Senior Adult Services, a nonprofit organization.

“It’s both my honor and my privilege to serve in a community that has given my family and me so much,” Dastur shares. “Helping keep other families and individuals from experiencing homelessness, hunger, or hopelessness is something anyone can do by being a volunteer with Metrocrest Services. I encourage everyone to join our mission. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this great organization.”

Steve Erickson, owner of Honey Dudes Handyman Services, has a heart for serving the community. He passionately serves his neighbors, no matter their circumstances, by “fixing stuff, all kinds of stuff, with palms up and a joyful demeanor.”

A true hidden hero, Erickson’s dedication extends to donating a portion of proceeds from each Honey Dudes job to Metrocrest Services, giving each customer credit for the donation. In addition, he supported the construction of Metrocrest Services’ new home and serves as the agency and Metrocrest Resale’s go-to handyman.

A handyman who cares, Erickson works each day to spread the message that “kindness matters,” reminding us all that there are opportunities to make things better, even in challenging times.

Sam Pack is the President and CEO of Sam Pack Auto Group. For 40 years, Pack has been a steadfast supporter of Metrocrest Services, providing financial support to help families in crisis situations and set them on a path to self-sufficiency.

As the honorary chair of the Building Our Future Capital Campaign committee, Pack played a crucial role in raising funds for Metrocrest Services’ new home. His commitment to the community is evident in the values upheld by his dealerships, where service to others is a core value.

As a businessman, I think we have a responsibility to be involved. We need to support the agencies that care for our citizens,” shares Pack. “The scope of what they do is really exceptional. I’m amazed at how in-depth they are when you look at what they’re doing in the community.”

Deebith Karthikeyan represents the next generation of servant leaders. A high school junior, Karthikeyan has already demonstrated a remarkable commitment to serving his community. He began volunteering at Metrocrest Services in 2020 and continues to support the agency’s volunteer needs in the Food Pantry and Metrocrest Resale store. This summer, he helped the agency transition from a drive-thru Food Pantry model to an in-person Food Pantry at their new home.

Karthikeyan is not only a dedicated volunteer but also excels in his studies, participates in various student groups, and was selected to serve on the 2023-24 Congressional Youth Advisory Council for Texas’ Twenty-Fourth Congressional District.

“Volunteering is an instinct; I like making a positive impact,” explains Karthikeyan. When he graduates, he plans to pursue a career in finance and use his skills to “help people and make the world a better place.”
