Metrocrest Services is thrilled to have Susan Smithson as its new Chief Operating Officer, bringing more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience to the organization.
Smithson will oversee organizational operations, program alignment, and strategic execution, supporting Metrocrest Services’ mission to empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and foster independence.
“Susan brings a thoughtful, strategic approach paired with deep operational expertise,” said Gabe Madison, CEO of Metrocrest Services. “I’ve known Susan for years and have always admired her commitment to supporting her community. Susan’s experience and vast amount of knowledge will help elevate our programs, allowing us to better serve our neighbors.”
Throughout her career, Smithson has led complex organizations through periods of growth, strengthening internal systems while keeping people and outcomes at the center of the work. Her background includes senior leadership roles overseeing multi-program initiatives, organizational strategy, and cross-functional teams dedicated to improving long-term stability for individuals and families.
“I was drawn to Metrocrest Services because of its deep commitment to the community and its holistic approach to helping people move forward,” Smithson said. “After meeting with Gabe and hearing her passion and vision, I knew this was the right place for me.”
As COO, Smithson will focus on building upon Metrocrest Services’ strong foundation while supporting continued innovation and impact. She said she is especially excited to see the organization’s work up close and contribute to its next chapter.
Smithson also brings a broad perspective on self-sufficiency. “To me, self-sufficiency is about more than finances or access to resources,” she said. “It is having the stability and confidence to make choices about your own life.”
Smithson holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Texas Woman’s University. Outside of work, she enjoys baseball, live music, spending time with her family and her dogs, and recharging by the ocean with a good book.
