At Metrocrest Services, the commitment to community well-being takes center stage with the launch of the Your Health Matters Information Series. As part of this initiative, the Caregiver Support & Resource Fair, held on Friday, January 19, brought together over 40 community members for an evening of education and fellowship.

A key highlight of the event was a conversation about the complexities of grief. Dr. Patricia Perryman, President and Dean of Nursing at Chamberlain University, served as the guide through this emotional terrain. Drawing upon her 40 years of nursing experience, Dr. Perryman delved into the signs and stages of anticipatory grief, offering attendees valuable insights. Caregivers learned practical tips and tricks on how to navigate this emotional journey.

“Dr. Perryman had us turn to our neighbor and spend some time just talking about how caring for a loved one had affected me, the caregiver,” shared one attendee. “It was refreshing to talk to someone who has been in the same situation as me- to know I’m not alone.”

The Caregiver Support & Resource Fair wasn’t just an information session but a gateway to a network of support services. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with various community resources, each geared towards providing senior-focused services. Participants included Candle Lighters-Horizon UU, Dallas Care Connection, Carrollton PHP Program, Carrollton Senior Center, Dallas Area Agency on Aging, Seniors BlueBook, and Senior Source. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort to provide caregivers with a spectrum of resources and assistance—caregivers left the event equipped with tools and tips to support themselves and their loved ones.

As the Your Health Matters Information Series continues, the agency looks forward to empowering more community members with the knowledge and resources they need to improve their health and well-being.

SAVE THE DATE: The next Your Health Matters Informational Series event is a Senior Resource Fair scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2024. The event will offer tips for healthy aging and resources available to seniors who want to age in place. Additional details are coming soon.
