Trinidad is a HUGE Cowboys fan. “It’s in my blood,” he shares. Legally blind Trinidad cannot drive, and for the past nine years, four days a week, he’s taken a bus and train from his home located 20 miles away to volunteer in Metrocrest Services’ Food Pantry four days a week. An integral part of the Food Pantry team, he comes to his volunteer shift every day with a smile and a willingness to do anything to support the staff, volunteers, and pantry visitors.

In the Food Pantry, Trinidad enjoys livening up the environment with jokes and blasting music on his speaker. “Working in the Food Pantry is like being a part of a football team,” explains Trinidad, “it’s all about teamwork.”

On Tuesday, July 18, Trinidad received a  surprise visit from his “favorite Dallas Cowboy,” Quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott, part of the 2023 Lowe’s Home Team, visited the agency to help Lowe’s red vest associates and pros set up a teaching garden. During the event, Prescott presented Trinidad with the Lowe’s Home Team award in recognition of his passion for the community, the NFL, and his ability to overcome adversity. “My disabilities don’t define who I am,” Trinidad shared with Prescott. “They motivate me to push forward and demonstrate that anything is possible.”

One of his favorite parts of volunteering at Metrocrest Services is helping those unaware of the programs and services available to them, often translating for Spanish-speaking neighbors. For Trinidad, volunteering is an avenue to be a part of something bigger than himself, “every day is an opportunity to be a better person and to build meaningful relationships,” he says.

“No one is more deserving of this award than Trinidad,” shares Chief Programs Officer Bev Grimley. “His commitment to helping others whenever possible inspires us all.”
