When school doors close for the summer, so does access to a vital resource for many children: free or reduced-price school meals. Metrocrest Services’ annual Sack Summer Hunger Program, proudly presented by Atmos Energy, steps in to bridge this critical gap, ensuring that local students receive the nourishment they need to thrive, even when school is out.

A Decade of Dedication to Fighting Summer Hunger

Metrocrest Services has been a steadfast partner in the fight against childhood hunger for over a decade. Collaborating with local churches, the Sack Summer Hunger program delivers easy-to-prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks directly to the homes of participating students every Saturday throughout the nine weeks of summer.

This year, the agency anticipates providing more than 108,000 meals to 800+ students in the Metrocrest area. Beyond providing essential nutrition, the program also incorporates engaging enrichment activities and nutrition-focused games to reinforce healthy eating habits.

The Stark Reality of Childhood Food Insecurity

In North Texas, 1 in 5 children face food insecurity. This challenge intensifies during out-of-school times like summer, placing vulnerable families under increased strain.

“The success of this program hinges on the generosity of our community, and this year, your support is more critical than ever,” shares Tracy Eubanks, CEO of Metrocrest Services. “Federal funding reductions are impacting non-profits, including area food banks. We need your help to ensure we can provide the necessary food for the children whose families rely on Metrocrest Services to keep their kids fed throughout the summer.”
